JoAnn Ridaught O’Grady, aged 87, peacefully passed away on the afternoon of December 28th, surrounded by the love and warmth of her family and friends. Born on September 7th, 1938, in Palatka, Florida, JoAnn was the cherished daughter of the late Harold Leslie Ridaught and Winona Louise Ridaught.
JoAnn, affectionately known as “Go Go Jo” for her vivacious spirit, lived life to the fullest. Her journey was marked by love, faith, and dedication. She built a rewarding career at the University of Florida, where she earned numerous accolades, including the distinguished Employee of the Year award.
A devoted Christian, JoAnn was an active member of the Woodlawn Baptist Church. She found joy in her service with the Ladies of the Church and cherished her Sundays in the nursery and Sunday School. Her love for plants, traveling, and spending time with her sisters brought her immense joy.
Always up for an adventure, JoAnn recently fulfilled a dream by traveling and exploring nearly 20 states, visiting iconic landmarks such as Mount Rushmore and Yellowstone.
JoAnn’s love extended beyond her immediate family to her beloved community at Nelsons Point. There, she cultivated deep friendships and embraced her neighbors as family. Her warmth and compassion were a beacon of light, and she delighted in participating in community gatherings and celebrations.
Family was the heart of JoAnn’s world. She was a nurturing presence who delighted in family gatherings and took great pride in watching her family grow and succeed. Her generous spirit and love for others will be forever remembered.
JoAnn is survived by her daughter, Susanna Sumpter (Rusty); granddaughter Joanna McKinney (Wes) and great-grandson Tanner Thornton; grandson George McKinney (Brittany); son Richard Barton Jr.(Amy); grandsons Wyatt Barton, Rick and Randall Grice; granddaughter Shaina Grice and great-grandchildren Zaine, Titan, and Shalin; granddaughter Ashlee Johnson (Steven) and great-grandson Landon; grandson Adam Dotson (Jennie) with great-grandchildren Oliver and Rosie. She is also survived by her brother Les Ridaught (Evelyn); sisters Kathy Scates, Sandra Roberts (Perman), Vie Paul (Rodney), and June Cassala. Best friend Diana Combs; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John F. “Jack” O’Grady, her daughter Tonda Jo Dotson, and her sister Lee Johnson.
A celebration of life was held on Saturday, January 10th, at Woodlawn Baptist Church, located at 818 Co Rd 20A, Hawthorne, FL 32640.
In lieu of flowers, JoAnn has kindly requested that donations be made in her name to Woodlawn Baptist Church.
