The Friends of A1A Scenic & Historic Coastal Byway announced its 2025 Volunteers of the Year: Rick Belhumeur and Elayne Byrd.

According to a press release from the organization, their "dedication, leadership and service have made a lasting impact on the organization and the scenic coastal communities it serves."

In his first year as president of A1A Scenic & Historic Coastal Byway, Belhumeur, a Flagler Beach city commissioner, helped advance key initiatives and energize the organization’s mission, the press release said.

Belhumeur jumpstarted and saw through to completion the A1A Gateway Monument restoration project. The monument is located in Ponte Vedra Beach at the border of Duval and St. Johns counties.

Byrd was a true team player, the release said, coordinating roadside and beach cleanups and rallying participants for the Hammock community garage sale. Her dedication showed at the Spoonbills & Sprockets event, where her day started at 5 a.m. flipping pancakes.
