Laura Guyton, a lifelong resident of Volusia County passed away peacefully on 1/1/26. Laura was born Laura Elizabeth Gleaton in Daytona Beach April 17, 1944. She married her childhood sweetheart Gary Smith and together they raised two sons who were the loves of her life. When her boys were young she centered her life around their needs. She worked at the Hurst Elementary school cafeteria to be near them and she spent years at the ball parks watching her boys play baseball. When they were older Laura obtained her CNA license and worked in health care continuing to care for others. Laura later married Michael Guyton, a former Vietnam Army Medic and they enjoyed 38 years of marriage until his passing in 2020. Laura and Michael loved their pets, the outdoors, gardening, fishing, and helping their families and friends. Laura was predeceased by her parents, Peter Oliver and Willie Mae Gleaton, her 4 sisters; Pansy, Shirley, Jeaner and Lottie. She is survived by her sons Pete Smith (Debi) Ormond Beach, Mark P. Smith (Amanda) Ormond Beach, and grandchildren Adam Smith (Raquel) Melbourne, and Haley Smith Wiese (David) Port Orange, and her senior dachshund Chico. Laura had many roles in her life but her greatest role was being a mother to her boys ... regardless of age they were always her greatest joy. She loved her family and had very close friendships from her early childhood that remained with her until passing. Laura was a native Floridian and her maternal family were Floridians for generations. She will be missed for her big love, quick wit and sassy personality. Heaven surely will be a wee bit more lively now. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
