Daytona Beach man found guilty of first-degree murder in 2023 carjacking case

A jury found Latravius Jacobs guilty as charged of first-degree murder, vehicular homicide, carjacking and burglary of a conveyance. He'll be sentenced on Feb. 9.

After a three-day trial, a Volusia County jury found defendant Latravius Jacobs guilty as charged of first-degree murder, vehicular homicide, carjacking and burglary of a conveyance.

+9On Dec, 14, 2023, Jacobs stole a vehicle from a man while in the parking lot of a Daytona Beach motel. About three minutes after the carjacking, Jacobs ran a red light at Mason and Ridgewood Avenue at 91 mph and crashed into another vehicle, a State Attorney's Office press release said.

The vehicle launched into the air and flipped several times. The victim died from his injuries at the scene.

The Daytona Beach Police Department investigated the case and Assistant State Attorneys Ashley McCarthy and Paiton Mizelle successfully tried the case for the State of Florida. Judge Kathryn Weston presided over the case and will sentence Jacobs on Feb. 9.
