Dear Editor:

A big shout-out and heartfelt thank you to the outstanding firefighters at Palm Coast Fire Station 24!

At 81 years old (almost 82), I recently had one of my smoke detectors begin chirping. With the high ceilings in my home, climbing a ladder simply wasn't a safe option. I stopped by Fire Station 24 on Palm Harbor Parkway to explain my situation, and within about five minutes, a crew was at my home.

They quickly replaced the battery, made sure everything was working properly, and also took the time to explain that because my home is now 22 years old, all of the smoke detectors should be replaced for safety.

This is what community service is all about — neighbors helping neighbors with professionalism, kindness, and genuine concern. Thank you again to everyone at Fire Station 24 for your prompt response and for helping keep our community safe. Palm Coast is fortunate to have such dedicated public servants.
