Baker Act. A 26-year-old Ormond Beach man was placed into protective custody after he obscured his face with a bandana and began walking through a neighborhood with a kitchen knife.

Police report that the man had been in an altercation with one of the neighborhood's maintenance workers. The man had approached the worker and asked him about his dog that had gotten loose; the worker replied that if the dog had been on a leash, this incident wouldn't have occurred.

The incident report states the worker allegedly used profane language while speaking to the man, who then threatened to shoot the worker. Police noted the man is not a gun owner nor does he have access to any guns. The maintenance worker returned the threat, saying he would also shoot him.

After donning a bandana and grabbing a kitchen knife, which the man put in a sock as a makeshift sheath, he started asking neighbors about the whereabouts of the maintenance worker. Police intervened and detained him, and due to past erratic behavior, he was transported to the hospital under a Baker Act.

Child neglect. Police arrested a 30-year-old Ormond Beach man after two toddlers — one of whom was naked — were found outside of the home without adult supervision.

Officers responded to a call about an unclothed 2-year-old boy and a 3-year-old girl playing in the front yard of a home and in and around the road. Upon arrival, police realized the toddlers were inside the home with an 11-year-old child, who was on the phone with her mother. She and her mother both said the children were supposed to be watched by the mother's boyfriend, who later told police he had informed his girlfriend that he was going to leave for 30 minutes to go to a friend's house in Daytona Beach.

The 11-year-old girl told officers she initially believed he had taken the toddlers with him and had been asleep at the time the toddlers exited the home. When she awoke, she saw the front door was open and the kids were outside, and she brought them back inside.

The man was taken to jail.
