Colored Pencil Expressions will run at the gallery at Grand Living Realty, 2298 Colbert Lane, Palm Coast, through Nov. 1, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

The show, which features 23 colored-pencil artists, also can be seen virtually at cpsa117.org/chapter-show/2025-show-gallery/. Forty-three pieces are hanging in the Expressions Art Gallery with an additional 16 appearing (59 total) in the virtual show gallery.

The local CPSA District Chapter 117 was founded in 2005 by Hanneke Jevons at the late Bill Shoemaker. Jevons met Shoemaker 25 years ago. He was teaching colored pencil art at the time. Jevons, then an art teacher at Flagler Palm Coast High School, was so impressed she added colored pencil to her class curriculum.

“Colored pencil is finally being recognized as a fine art along with oil painting, acrylic, water colors and other media,” Jevons said.

Pat Lentine, who won the Best in Show Founder’s Award for “I See You,” said colored pencil is easy to transport and easy to pick up and put down with no set up or clean up.

Lentine produced “I see You,” off a photo of her granddaughter. Julie Karner placed second with “I Dare You 2,” a close-up of Pedro the emu at Brevard Zoo.

“I’m very meticulous, and (with colored pencil) you can get detailed,” Karner said. “This piece took me five months to do.”

It also can be done on a variety of surfaces. Priscilla Humay’s “Inlet Billows No. 2,” was done on wood. Humay said she started using colored pencils for preparatory sketches for her paintings.

“Then I thought, why not just do colored pencil?” she said.

Nancy Jacey placed third with, “ A Bright Future Lies Ahead.” Honorable mention winners included: Liz Monaco for “A Flying Squirrel,” John Robak for “Primary Vision,” Linda Bishop for “After the Hunt,” Humay for “Inlet Billows No. 2,” and Bethann Wong for “Abbey.”
