Flagler County has appointed Percy Sayles as its new deputy county administrator, filling the vacancy after the death of Deputy County Administrator Jorge Salinas earlier this month.

Sayles' appointment was announced in a news release on Thursday, Oct. 23. The release states that Sayles has more than 31 years of public sector experience. For the last four years, he has served as deputy fire chief for Flagler County Fire Rescue.

“I am excited and honored to have Percy join Administration,” Flagler County Administrator Heidi Petito said. “While we all continue to miss Jorge, Percy was someone he held in high regard. It is fitting that he will help carry on the important work we have started together as we continue to move our organization and community forward.”

Salinas, 59, and his wife, Nancy, 60, were killed in a hit-and-run car crash in Volusia County on Oct. 4. He had been the deputy county administrator since 2021.

Before working for Flagler County Fire Rescue, Sayles worked for the City of Tamarac, Florida, as their fire chief and serving as an interim assistant city manager. He holds a master's degree in public administration, a bachelor’s degree in nursing, and an associate’s degrees in fire science, nursing, and emergency medical service.

“It is truly an honor to be entrusted with this role,” Sayles said. “I look forward to supporting our talented team, building on the foundation Jorge helped create, and continuing our commitment to excellence and service to the residents of Flagler County.”
