The Friends of Tomoka Basin State Parks recently awarded a $33,572 grant from the Daytona Beach Racing and Recreation District to fund the replacement of one of its Marina Fishing Pier dock.
The dock is one of several within Tomoka State Park and had sustained significant hurricane damage, leading to its closure.
“Receiving this grant from the Daytona Beach Racing and Recreation District is a meaningful milestone for the Friends of Tomoka Basin State Parks, particularly in our efforts to enhance recreation by restoring the Marina Fishing Pier for use by visitors to Tomoka State Park," said Gordon Whitley, president of the Friends group, in a press release. “This funding directly supports one of our priority projects and will significantly enhance the visitor experience. It aligns perfectly with our mission to preserve and enhance the natural and cultural resources of the Tomoka Basin State Parks.”

The Daytona Beach Racing & Recreational Facilities District, which works in partnership with the Daytona Beach Street Rods to produce the Daytona Turkey Run and Spring Turkey Run, has reinvested more than $19 million to build and improve recreational facilities in Daytona Beach, Ormond Beach, Holly Hill, South Daytona and Port Orange.
Additionally, the District has helped fund many local organizations such as Halifax Youth Sailing, Halifax Historical Society, Museum of Arts & Sciences and the Daytona Beach YMCA, Disabled American Veterans, ARC of Volusia, the Jackie Robinson Ballpark, and many more including The Friends of Tomoka Basin State Parks, the press release states.
“Congratulations to the Friends of Tomoka Basin State Parks to receive a Daytona Beach Racing and Recreational Facilities District Grant,” said Barbara Kelly, General Manager of the Daytona Turkey Run.
