Three Volusia County men sentenced to jail in May 2022 carjacking, murder case

One of three co-defendants received life in prison while the other two were sentenced to 30 and 50 years.

Three co-defendants were sentenced to prison on Nov. 21 for second degree murder charges in the May 2022 shooting death and carjacking of a Volusia County man. 

One defendant, Isaiah Thomas, 24, received life in prison while Nassan Bacon, 25, and and Terrell Maddox, 23, received 30 and 50 years in prison, repsectively, for the murder charge. The three were also sentenced to 30 years for carjacking, to be served concurrently, according to a State Attorney's Office press release.  

Two other co-defendants, John Torres, 26, and Estella Luna, 27, received their sentences earlier in the week. Torres received 18 years in prison and a 12-year probation while Luna was sentenced to 180 days in the Volusia County jail followed by 15 years of supervision, the press release said. 

The five suspects attempted to steal an occupied vehicle, shooting through the windshield and hitting one victim, while his girlfriend was sitting beside him. The man died of his wounds 12 days later, the press release said.

The case was investigated by the Daytona Beach Police Department as well as the Deland Police Department and prosecuted  Assistant State Attorney Helen Schwartz, the press release said.
