It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Lorette McFarland on September 27th, 2025. Born on December 26,1949 in Staten Island, New York, Lorette’s life was a beautiful reflection of devotion to family, hard work, and the simple joys that gave her the greatest happiness.
Lorette was the beloved wife of James McFarland, with whom she shared a life built on love, laughter, and steadfast companionship. She was a devoted mother to Michelle Voorhies and son-in-law Jamie Voorhies, and a proud, adoring grandmother to Breanna Voorhies, who was the light of her life. She was also a cherished sister to John, Edward, and Martin Tennant, sister-in-law to Doris Hays and a loving presence to her extended family and friends.
A graduate of St. Joseph’s By the Sea High School, Lorette began her career at Loeb Rhoades & Co., and later dedicated many years to childcare at Flagler County Schools.
Those who knew Lorette will remember her favorite color, blue, which reflected her beautiful eyes. She found joy in collecting postcards, a passion that symbolized her connection to friends and family. Cruising brought her some of her happiest memories with her husband Jimmy and friends, whether sailing through the breathtaking landscapes of Alaska and Norway or enjoying the warmth of the Caribbean. She treasured family photos, reminders of the moments and people she held closest to her heart, creating beautiful albums archiving the lives of those she loved.
Lorette was endlessly proud of being a New Yorker and her Irish heritage, carrying with her the resilience, warmth, and humor of her Staten Island roots throughout her life.
Her legacy is one of love, loyalty, and the countless ways she made others feel special and cared for. Though our hearts ache with her absence, her memory will live on in the family she adored, the traditions she created, and the stories we will tell for generations to come.
A celebration of Lorette’s life will be held at Craig-Flagler Palms, located at 511 Old Kings Road South, Flagler Beach, FL, 32136, on October 1, 2025, from 9:30 am to 10:45 am. The graveside service will take place at Jacksonville National Cemetery, located at 4083 Lannie Rd, Jacksonville, FL, 32218, on October 1, 2025, from 1:30 pm to 2:00 pm.
