Recently, School Resource deputies from the Flagler County Sheriff’s Office visited three local schools to present three exceptional students with awards that had been selected by Sheriff Rick Staly for being “Great Kids” for the month of April 2025.
Every month during the school year, the “Great Kid” Award is presented to students who respect their peers, help others, work hard in academics, and represent themselves and their school well. The recipients are nominated by FCSO’s School Resource deputies and school employees and selected by Sheriff Staly.
“The Great Kid Awards give us the opportunity to meet and recognize the young people who are doing great things in our community and in their schools,” said Sheriff Rick Staly. “It is an honor to have our deputies shine a spotlight on the students in Flagler County who are working to make a positive impact. We want them to know that we appreciate their hard work, and we’re here to help and support them in reaching their goals.”
Below is a summary of each student and why they received the Great Kid Award.
Bunnell Elementary School fourth grader Dahlia Bonilla
Dahlia’s positive attitude has led to her improving her grades, establishing peer relationships, and becoming an encouraging member of our school. Dahlia is respectful and patient with all of her peers, openly shares kind words, and motivates others. We are very proud of the hard work she has put into becoming a role model in our school.
Imagine School eighth grader Joziah Rosa
Joziah is a wonderful student with the best manners and sweetest demeanor! He can always be counted on to tell his teachers to have a great day and to put a smile on our faces! He is going to do great things in his life because of his incredible character!
Matanzas High School 12th grader Kseniia Melnychuk
Kseniia was a student who transferred to Matanzas her junior year. She has been a huge help to us in the Dean's office. Kseniia is enrolled in our ROTC program and has been assisting at many of our academic and sporting events. She is constantly helping her peers as well as faculty and staff members. Kseniia is regularly relied on to assist with translation and new students coming into Matanzas. Kseniia has several interests here at Matanzas including art, law enforcement, and the military. Kseniia embodies what it means to be a Matanzas Pirate through her tenacious work ethic. This is Kseniia's senior year, and we are glad she is graduating as a Matanzas Pirate!
