Palm Coast's Portuguese Americans celebrated Portugal Day in style with a traditional flag raising followed by traditional food, drink and dancing.
The flag-raising event was in two parts. Members of the Portuguese American Cultural Center (PACC) met with Palm Coast Vice Mayor Theresa Carli Pontieri and Flagler County Sheriff Rick Staly at Palm Coast City Hall to raise the Portuguese flag and the United States flag on June 6. Then, on June 7, the flags were raised again at the PACC celebration of Portugal Day which lasted all weekend.
After the flags were hoisted, Pontieri, Staly and others spoke to an audience of over 200 people. The celebration included live entertainment, traditional food and drink and traditional dancing from the folklore group Rancho Corações de Portugal.
At a third celebration, on Sunday, June 8, the PACC was filled with locals to watch the Portugal and Spain soccer teams compete in the 2025 UEFA Nations League Final. After an intense 2-2 draw filled with nail-biting moments, Portugal won on penalties 5-3.
