Possession of drugs. A 51-year-old Ormond Beach man handed over less than a gram of cocaine after police pulled him over and asked if he was in possession of any illicit drugs.

Police pulled the man over after seeing him speed on a South Yonge Street, as well as noticing that one of the vehicle's tail lights had "so much tape on it that it appeared to be out," according to an incident report.

Once pulled over, the man told the officer that he didn't realize he had been going over 10 mph over the posted speed limit. In regard to his vehicle's tail light, the man said it has a broken lens and that he has repeatedly taped over it.

Then police asked him if he had any drugs in the car; the man said he did, and paced the cocaine in the officer's gloved hand.

He was taken to jail.

Dog found

8:19 p.m. — 200 block of West Granada Boulevard, Ormond Beach

Animal complaint. Police took custody of a dog found wandering into a local convenience store while holding its own leash in its mouth.

Police arrived on the scene and spoke with store employees, who said the grey pit bull had entered the store the day before as well in the same manner. They had let the dog go back outside and employees said that no one came in to inquire about the dog since.

The store clerk said he would hold on to the dog if he could, but that he was unable to and wanted police to take the dog and check for a chip.
