This summer, Palm Coast United Methodist Church welcomed two interns, Zahir Allen and Armon Flukers, to explore vocations through ministry internships.
The internship began on June 1 and will run through Aug. 1. For Allen, one of his most impactful components of his experience as an intern has been being involved with "Our Father's Table," a ministry dedicated to feeding homeless and food-insecure citizens, according to an article by the church.
“Interning at Palm Coast United Methodist Church has been an enriching and hands-on experience that continues to shape my understanding of ministry, service, and leadership within the church," Allen said. "Every week brings new opportunities to serve, grow, and connect with the community in meaningful ways."
Allen is also involved with the music ministry.
“Each week, I contribute by either playing the piano or singing during Sunday worship," he said. "I also regularly participate in leading Sunday services, contributing by reading scripture, delivering the call to worship, or offering prayers for the congregation. These moments have challenged me to grow in confidence and presence while reinforcing the importance of thoughtful, spirit-led leadership during worship."
Flukers is a recent graduate of Bethune-Cookman University, where he served as a student director and tenor section leader of the concert chorale.
"When I stepped into my internship at Palm Coast United Methodist Church, I didn’t just come as a college student looking to complete a requirement," Flukers said. "I came as a worship leader, a servant, and someone deeply committed to exploring what it truly means to walk in God’s calling. ... I also knew that if I was going to pursue ministry seriously, I needed to step beyond the classroom and the stage and into the heart of the church. These are the spaces where people live, worship, struggle, and grow together. That’s what drew me into this internship: the chance to grow, to serve, and to discern what full-time ministry might look like for me.”
