Why did you decide to become a teacher?
I became a teacher because as a student, several of my own teachers inspired me to work harder, aim higher and persevere through challenges. I wanted to be someone students would remember for having a positive influence on who they become.
How does the nomination make you feel?
I feel deeply honored and humbled by the nomination. It’s wonderful to have the efforts that I put into my students and school recognized by colleagues and families.
What is your favorite thing about being a teacher?
My favorite thing is knowing that I am making a difference in the lives of my students and their families. I am able to help my students to reach their full potential, to do things that they may not have been able to before, and bring some hope to their families as we celebrate their accomplishments together.
What is one thing you are taking away from this experience?
This experience has given me renewed confidence in my abilities and a strong sense that my work matters to my colleagues and the wider school community.
Being a teacher can be challenging at times. What keeps you motivated?
Seeing students grow and gain confidence motivates me every day. Their progress, big or small, reminds me why I chose this work.
What is a memorable experience that influenced the way you approach educating students?
One memorable experience is seeing a student’s small smile light up their eyes when they realize that they have accomplished something meaningful. Those moments remind me to celebrate small wins, build confidence, and create learning experiences where every student can experience that pride.
If there was one piece of wisdom you could share with students, what would it be?
Keep trying. Even small steps add up. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes; growth comes from effort and persistence.
Aside from your job, what are some other things you enjoy in your daily life?
Outside of school, my faith in Jesus is central to my daily life. I cherish time with family and friends, especially when my granddaughter asks, “Grammie you wanna play with me?” It just melts my heart! I love being outdoors, exploring new places, enjoying sunshine or rainstorms, indulging in anything chocolate, and taking a good roadtrip.
