Aldi's second store in Ormond Beach is now open.
The grocer celebrated the opening of its new store at 353 W. Granada Blvd. on Thursday, Dec. 18. Spanning 24,081 square feet of the former Winn-Dixie, the store will be open daily from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. It will also offer online shopping and curbside pickup.
According to a press release, the opening of the Ormond Beach store brings Aldi one step closer to reaching the company's goal to open 800 stores nationwide by the end of 2028.
Mathew White, district manager for Aldi, greeted shoppers during the opening, which began with a ribbon-cutting.
"We're super excited to be here," he said. "I just want to give a huge shout-out to my team here. All the guys here have done a fantastic job working hard over the last couple of weeks to get the store ready for you all."
The first 100 customers received a gift bag with Aldi products and a gift card up to $100 as part of the store's Golden Ticket gift card giveaway program.
Ormond Beach resident Danyelle Stalk was the first person in line for the opening. She had been in line since 1 a.m.
"I like that it's a new location," she said, adding that she lives near both Ormond stores. "... For me it's good either way, but I like that it's going to be brand new."
Stalk decided to attend the opening thanks to her friend, Danyelle Rodrigue, whose mom used to wait in line for store openings with Rodrigue's grandmother.
They're continuing the family tradition: Rodrigue's mom and stepdad were just a few spots down in the line of shoppers.
"We made it like a little fun thing," Rodrigue said.
