Two Flagler County Sheriff's Office deputies in the Motors Unit were hit by another vehicle on Dec. 16.

The crash occurred at the intersection of Palm Coast Parkway and Clubhouse Drive before noon. Master Deputy Greg Nunziato and Deputy Matthew Mortimer hit the side of a sedan as they were driving westbound on Palm Coast Parkway, a FCSO Facebook post said.

Both deputies were awake and talking after the crash and had non-life-threatening injuries. They were taken to the Halifax Health Medical Center of Daytona Beach for further treatment, the post said.

According to a report by the Florida Highway Patrol, at 11:53 a.m. a maroon sedan was going westbound on Palm Coast Parkway in the middle lane while the two deputies on motorcycles were driving behind the sedan in the left lane. The DeLand driver abruptly made a left turn into a gas station parking lot, cutting off the two deputies, who hit the side of the sedan.

“This traffic crash could have had a tragic ending," said Sheriff Rick Staly. "Thankfully, God looked out for our deputies today, as they did not sustain any serious injuries. In light of this crash, I want to remind everyone to stay alert, keep your eyes on the road, obey all traffic signs and signals, and do not use your phone while driving. This also serves as a good reminder of the importance of wearing a helmet while riding a motorcycle, since this could have been much worse had they not been wearing one. I also want to thank all of the first responders who responded to the scene and the community for their prayers."
