On Dec. 12, the Flagler County Sheriff's Office took 145 children shopping for the Christmas holiday.
This is the largest amount of children the FCSO event has been able to include since its inception in 2020. Each child received a $275 gift card to spend during a shopping trip at Walmart, according to a FCSO press release.
This is also the most funds the FCSO has been able to provide participating kids, the press release said.
The children had a holiday party first at the Flagler County Sheriff's Office Operations Center, where they played holiday games and could meet Santa Claus and the Grinch.
The participating FCSO employees alongside other participating law enforcement officers took all 145 children in a police motorcade to Walmart to shop. Afterward, FCSO provided a dinner in the Walmart's garden section.
According to a FCSO Facebook post, many children bought toys and clothes not just for themselves but also "for their siblings and parents, as well as special food items that their families don’t normally get to enjoy."
Shop with a Cop is an annual event that helps disadvantaged children facing economic hardships, are in foster care or are victims of domestic violence to experience a happy holiday, the press release said. The children are nominated by FCSO and Flagler Schools staff.
