A house in the 100 block of Highland Avenue caught on fire after a candle was left unattended on Wednesday, Aug. 27.
The Ormond Beach Fire Department responded to the structure fire around 8:20 p.m., according to the agency's post on Facebook. The unattended candle ignited a mattress and dresses, but was contained within the room, OBFD reported.
All of the home's residents were safe and not displaced; OBFD also rescued two cats and a dog.
OBFD issued a reminder to never leave candles unattended and to keep flammable items away from open flames as a prevention measure.
