Explosives. Police responded to a local neighborhood after a resident reported she had been awakened by a loud explosion in the early hours of the morning.
The resident later checked her security camera footage, and saw that an unknown suspect had thrown "some sort of explosive or incendiary device" out the window of his or her car at 1:28 a.m., according to an incident report. Officers reviewed the footage, which showed the suspect throwing an object that appeared to be on fire into a grassy median. The object "violently exploded, causing a large fireball" as the driver continued on.
The damage was limited to a scorched patch of ground. Several charred fragments of ripped and torn electrical tape covered in duct tape were recovered. Police determined that the suspect did not appear to have been targeting any specific homes.
10:18 p.m. — 700 block of West Granada Boulevard, Ormond Beach
Petit theft. A 49-year-old Ormond Beach man was trespassed from a local retail pharmacy store after he called police to report his e-bike had been stolen.
The man had been looking for boxes in the dumpster behind the store when he turned his back on his bike for about three to five minutes, according to a police report. When he turned around, his bike was gone.
After speaking with the store manager, the man discovered that there was security footage that captured the incident. It also captured him in the act of dumpster diving, which the store manager told police was illegal.
The man was issued a trespass warning.
