Inspiration of Hope Community Resources Inc. held a four-week paid summer internship program for ages 14-17 to train youth for future employment opportunities.
The program was a success, Inspiration of Hope President Donna Easterling said, with the participants interning at Bunnell City Hall, the Carver Center's Great Minds Summer Math and Science Camp and Bennell Elementary School.
Tanya Felman, who interned at Bunnell City Hall, said in an Inspiration of Hope press release that she learned how to use different software, log permits and inspections and organize records. She also learned about the Community Development Department's various regulatory functions. She said she would love to intern there again next summer.
Isaiah Chatman, who interned at Carver Community Center’s Great Minds summer camp, said in leading a group activity, he learned to effectively communicate with children and manage responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.
Kavion Brown, who interned at Bunnell Elementary School, said he enjoyed working with school staff and gained experience in how to effectively communicate with people. Brown is entering the military this month.
Easterling issued "a special thank-you to all the internship worksites and especially the support of the Flagler County Schools Education Foundation (and) Mrs. Maryiotti Johnson for their partnership in this endeavor. It is hoped that the summer internship program will be expanded for summer 2026."
The Inspiration of Hope Community Resources life skills program for middle and high school students will begin its fall semester on Sept. 17 and will be facilitated by Dr. Timothy King. The seven-week program will meet after school at the Carver Community Center. For registration information and packet, email [email protected].
