Daniel Fish’s first practice as Flagler Palm Coast’s head football coach didn’t go exactly as planned.
The Bulldogs’ helmets did not arrive in time for the opening day of spring practice on May 1.
Live contact is not allowed for the first five days of practice, but not having helmets puts more restrictions on practice.
“We had to alter practice. It’s something you don’t want to deal with on the first day of practice when you’re a new program,” Fish said.
But Fish could not hide the smile on his face. The new coach was happy to get started.
Fish was hired on March 29 to replace Robert Paxia who resigned on Feb. 23 after two seasons with the Bulldogs to become the head coach at Winder-Barrow High School in Georgia.
Fish, 28, had been the head coach at Father Lopez for the past three seasons.
The Bulldogs have lost a few players. Four-star linebacker prospect Rodney Hill and defensive back Ely Gilyard both transferred to Mainland.
Quarterback D.J. Murray did participate in the first day of spring practice. Murray is also practicing for the regional track and field meet on May 5.
