Despite the uncertainty of international and national affairs, the Matanzas High School graduating seniors of the Class of 2022 exhibited optimism and hope as they celebrated their graduation May 28, at the Ocean Center in Daytona Beach.
Addressing the crowd of graduates and their supporters and family members, Principal Jeff Reaves struggled to maintain composure as he asked for a moments silence to remember the two fourth grade teachers and the 19 young students in Uvalde, Texas.
To begin the event, the national anthem was sung by Jonas Winter, Ethan Fink and Andrew Khamtheang. Alyssa Sa and Zuri Erstberg welcomed their classmates — about 370 graduates.
Student speaker Emelia Kern spoke about time, and Tate Winecoff urged his classmates consider what legacy they would leave behind.
