The Flagler Soccer 7v7 High School League opened its season June 3 with four boys games and two girls games at the Indian Trail Sports Complex.
The league allows high school players who aren't busy with soccer clubs to play with their teammates over the summer.
"In 2018, I was playing in the Flagler Soccer Adult League, and a lot of high schoolers asked to play in the league," said Ramtin Amiri, who is Flagler Palm Coast High School's boys soccer coach.
Amiri organized the high school version of the adult 7 on 7 league under the Flagler Soccer organization, run by Gavin Ginnane.
"In 2018 we had 33 players. We've grown and grown since then," Amiri said.
This season, there are over 100 players with eight boys teams and four girls teams. High school teammates play together, but they wear different uniforms and go by different team names. Some of the teams have sponsors.
Amiri's FPC players have formed two teams — Chenzo Web FC and Lotus Elite Care FC. The FPC girls wear black instead of Bulldog green and are known as the Dawgz. The Dawgz won their first game 8-2 against the Falcons, a team of Pedro Menendez players. The Ormond Sandcrabs, a group of Seabreeze players, also won, although they had just five players.
Chenzo Web FC defeated the Old City Hooligans, a group of St. Augustine High School players, 5-2.
The games are played on a smaller field with 27-minute halves. Each team plays with six field players and a goalkeeper. The season runs through the summer.
"It's a super, fast pace," Amiri said. "You're on one side of the field and the next second you're on the other side. You're getting a lot of touches."
