Fresh off its final-four appearance at the state duals tournament, Flagler Palm Coast's wrestling team celebrated senior night with a 59-12 victory over cross-town rival Matanzas on Jan. 26 at FPC.
FPC improved to 13-8 with the win, while Matanzas fell to 12-12.
Timothy McLean (106), John Hald (126), Bryce Dodge (160), Marcelo Gonzalez (182), Garrick Schwartz (195), Dalton Schell (220) and Seth Davis (285) all recorded pins for the Bulldogs. FPC's Kole Hannant (120) and Felipe Costa (145) won major decisions.
The teams split the two most anticipated matches of the night involving four returning state qualifiers. Matanzas senior Tyson Mills won by a 6-4 decision over Tim King at 152 pounds. FPC’s Blane DeFord, who placed fourth at state the past two seasons, won a 4-2 decision over Jordan Mills at 170 pounds.
Henson White won at 138 pounds for Matanzas. Carter Wilder, one of the Pirates' top wrestlers, did not wrestle in the match as he was cutting weight to be able to wrestle at 113 pounds at the Flagler Rotary two days later.
