The anticipation from the crowd was high as everyone gathered around to watch the Casements' tree be lit up for the holidays for the 44th year in a row.
But before the tree was lit, special guests Elsa the Snow Queen, Santa and Mrs. Claus made an appearance on the train after The Casements' lights were revealed.
Opening night for The Casements Guild's 44th-annual Christmas Gala, themed "Christmas on the Halifax," featured cookie decorating, face painting, train rides, letters to Santa, crafts, food trucks and an opportunity for a photo with Santa and Mrs. Claus. The Moonlight Combo kept everyone in the Christmas spirit all night with festive tunes.
Local vendors were located inside The Casements selling homemade items and gifts, baked goods, trinkets and ornaments. There was also a raffle for various gift baskets and a photo auction upstairs to bid on.
The gala will run through Sunday, Dec. 4.
