After a loss against Spruce Creek and a win against Matanzas, Seabreeze was thankful to wrap last week up with a 39-0 blowout against the Menendez Falcons on Thursday, April 7.
“It definitely boosts our confidence having a lot of points on the board for the end of the week,” Sandcrab Kylie Watson said. “My plan going into (this week) is play like I did (last week). Work hard.”
Watson scored the first touchdown of the game and led the defense with six tackles. This is only her second year playing flag football, but she attributes her ability to playing two or three sports per year. The combination of playing soccer since the age of 5 and being raised in a family of football fans has been beneficial, she said. She began playing flag football her freshman year with knowledge of the rules and an understanding of the game.
“The last time we played them (Mainland), it was a close game but I feel like mentally we fell apart. We got nervous. If we can control that and stay on top of our game, we can come out with a win this season.”

Fellow soccer player, Avery Dellinger — goalie for the Seabreeze team — punted 45 yards against Menendez. She was looking forward to the Sandcrabs' three games this week and getting another shot at Mainland. The Sandcrabs had games on consecutive days against Pine Ridge, Deltona and Mainland.
They host the Bucs on Thursday, April 14, at 7 p.m.
“Hopefully we can get on a winning streak going into Mainland and have some confidence,” she said. “I think we get in our own heads. The last time we played them, it was a close game, but I feel like mentally we fell apart. We got nervous. If we can control that and stay on top of our game, we can come out with a win this season.”
Quarterback Chelsea McQuarrie continues to demonstrate outstanding leadership qualities and physical versatility on the field. She was 18 for 26 with 153 yards passing, ran in one touchdown, scored an extra point and had three sacks against the Falcons.
“The season is going good,” head coach Todd Barnes said. “All our goals are ahead of us. We have three big games (this week). I don’t even want to mention Mainland until we play Pine Ridge. Hopefully, we score a lot of points and shut them down on defense. Give them a big goose egg.”
