Jason O'Kelly was arrested on May 18 on drug and firearm possession charges after Flagler County Sheriff’s Office deputies received a tip about an armed man in a vehicle.

“This is another great example of resident’s ‘seeing something, saying something,’ which helps keep our community safe,” Sheriff Rick Staly said. “Flagler County is not the place to hide if you are a fugitive. I commend the deputies for who responded to this call. If you bring drugs into Flagler County, you can expect accommodations at the Green Roof Inn.”

On Tuesday, May 18, the FCSO responded to a call about an armed male, later identified as Jason O’Kelly, sleeping in his car in the parking lot of ABC Liquor, located at 224 Palm Coast Parkway NE.

When responding deputies arrived, they observed a vehicle parked sideways, backed into the northernmost parking spots with the rear of the vehicle concealed by palmetto fronds. Deputies observed O’Kelly in the driver’s seat with a firearm wedged between the passenger’s seat and the center console along with a glass smoking pipe.

A probable cause search of the vehicle was performed. The search recovered a backpack containing 73 grams of marijuana, 12 containers of concentrated THC wax weighing 1.54 pounds, 7 packs of edible THC gummies weighing .95 pounds, 8 THC tablets, and 11 concentrated THC oils with packaging.

In the passenger door, a clear, capped glass jar containing dehydrated mushrooms, weighing approximately 25 grams, was also found. Several miscellaneous glass pipes and smoking apparatuses were also recovered from the passenger side door.

Located within the driver’s door were several bags of white crystalline substances that tested positive for methamphetamine, weighing approximately 3 grams. A total of $2,432 cash was seized from the vehicle. Further investigation revealed that O’Kelly was a fugitive from Coweta County, Georgia, where was was wanted for Failure to Appear for Sale and Possession of Marijuana.

This is not O’Kelly’s first encounter with law enforcement. He has a criminal history with multiple felony convictions, including a charge from the Daytona Beach Police Department in 2014 for Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon.

Jason O’Kelly was arrested and charged with Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon, Possession of
Marijuana, Possession of Methamphetamine, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, and is a Fugitive From Justice for an Out of County Warrant. He is being held at the Sheriff Perry Hall Inmate Detention Center with no bond.
