Father Lopez High School baseball defeated Matanzas at home 7-1, on Monday, March 15.
The Green Wave started sophomore pitcher Owen McKinley, while junior Jacob Cope got the start for the Pirates. The Green Wave broke out in the bottom of the third inning, scoring 5 runs, then added two more to the lead in the bottom of the sixth, making the score 7-0. Despite throwing a shutout in six innings, Father Lopez brought in junior Josh Griggs to close out the last inning. In the top of the seventh Matanzas’ junior Quincey Cuthbert scored a run, batted home by junior Jack Rainey. But the Pirates comeback fell short and Father Lopez won 7-1.
