The Lady Buccaneers’ flag football team blindsided the Lady Pirates 30-6 on Mainland High School’s home turf Monday, March 1.
Mainland took to the field to play in their second non-district game that afternoon. The Lady Pirates struggled in their first game of the season, unable to match plays with the Bucs the first half. Within ten minutes of start time, Alexa Wilson ran the ball into the end zone for the first touchdown. The extra points were not a given, however, as Matanzas’ Megan Torres blocked Mainland’s Isys Grady’s pass meant for Ava Dougherty. The Lady Buccaneers were undaunted as wide receiver, Kassie Stoner, ran a receiving touchdown in a little over ten minutes later.
Thirty minutes into the game, Pirate Alyssa Kimmel passed to Emily Demarteleire for a touchdown. The Lady Buccaneers answered with a pass interception by Stoner who easily crossed over the line for a touchdown. Stoner wrapped up the game with a total of three touchdowns which could not be matched by Matanzas.
The Mainland Buccaneers play the Atlantic Sharks Thursday, March 4 in a non-district game.
