Editor's Note: Palm Coast Observer Publisher John Walsh recently endorsed David Alfin for mayor.
David Alfin, a real estate broker who is running for Palm Coast mayor, was arrested in 2002 and again in 2007 for driving while impaired with alcohol, both in Ulster County, New York. As is common during campaign season, other accusations have also been made, which he addressed in a phone interview July 20.
With regard to the drunk driving arrests, Alfin said he wanted to be “totally transparent. A mistake I made, never to be repeated.”
Facebook commenters have also suggested that Alfin had $60,000 tax liens against properties, but he said they were not his properties and any court records are referring to another person named David Alfin.
Alfin confirmed that he is a member of the county’s Value Assessment Board, and he will step down if he is elected mayor so as to avoid any conflicts.
He is also accused of dropping out of the Naval Academy at war time. Alfin said in his July 20 interview that in 1972, he believed that the Vietnam War was going to end soon and that the Navy could be downsized, so he transferred to the University of Pennsylvania.
