The Seabreeze Lady Sandcrabs caged the Pine Ridge Panthers for a 37-28 win at Seabreeze High School, Monday, Jan. 25.
The first quarter started with a head-to-head race to the hoops, wrapping up with a one point Seabreeze lead. The Lady Sandcrabs dominated the second quarter, ending the first half at 20-10. Seabreeze guard Myla Vincent was the point leader going into halftime with 7 points.
Coach John Rogers was pleased with the way the team moved the ball. “I gave them a game plan and they executed it very well,” he said.
Two minutes into the third quarter, a technical foul was called on Seabreeze's Tonila Jackson for unsportsmanlike ball slamming. The Panthers failed to convert but rallied with 11 points in the third quarter. Point guard Ocean Summers racked up 12 points, helping Seabreeze to deny encroachment on their lead. Seabreeze finished with the win against Pine Ridge, an opponent who beat them in pre-season play.
“You've got to give them the tools,” said Rogers. “The secret is that hard work will beat talent when talent refuses to work hard.”
Lady Sandcrabs head to Father Lopez Wednesday, Jan. 27, for a tough pre-playoff game. They are currently 9-6 and third in 5A District 4 standings.
