The Lady Sandcrabs’ soccer team charged the Englewood Rams with 7-0 win in the regional quarterfinal state championship on Tuesday, Feb. 16.
Due to an accident on I-95, the Rams were stalled in traffic, delaying the game by one hour. This did not change the Sandcrabs’ positive attitudes.
“Oh, yeah, we’re ready,” several players said in unison. “We are ready to kick some butt.”
Eighteen minutes into the game, Riley Stoner drilled the ball into the net for the Sandcrabs’ first point. Seabreeze continued to play as a cohesive team and were rewarded with another goal just prior to halftime, compliments of Kylie Watson. Katey Collins had the assist on both goals.
Coach Christine Goebel expressed appreciation for her players.
“When I first started, I thought, 'Dang, I’m getting handed all of this on a silver platter,'” she said. “There is a lot of talent here but to get to know them and their personalities and who they are as people instead of players has been cool. They are a really solid group of kids.”
Among the talented Seabreeze players are Brianna Chesley with 9 season goals and Kayla Lancing with 53 steals this season for the Sandcrabs.
Midway through the second half, Nickole Dane scored back-to-back goals giving the Sandcrabs a 4-0 advantage. Seabreeze wrapped up the game with two more goals by players, Carly McNerney and Billie Best-Abramowitz. The barrage of points left the Rams scoreless and the Sandcrabs with the win.
Riding a five-game winning streak, the Seabreeze Sandcrabs’ girls’ soccer team face Ponte Vedra in the regional semifinal state championship on Friday, Feb. 19.
