The Spruce Creek Hawks came within one run of defeating the Merritt Island Mustangs, but fell just short in the seventh, losing 4-3 on Wednesday, April 14. While the Mustangs scored early driving up the score 3-0 by the fourth inning, the Hawks held the Mustangs scoreless in the fifth and sixth innings while playing strong defense.

Spruce Creek made a three-inning comeback effort with Brandon Neely’s double in the fifth that sent Evan Mastromauro home and Trent Godawa’s score on a first baseman error in the sixth, bringing the Hawks within one run.

At the top of the seventh, the Mustangs scored again, bringing the score to 4-2 with the Hawks holding the home field final at bat of the game. In the bottom of the seventh, Luke Bentley hit a sacrifice fly, sending Preston Wetherell home, but the game ended 4-3, for the Mustangs.
