The Lady Buccaneers’ flag football team lived up to its undefeated record by beating the Lady Sandcrabs 35-0 on Thursday, April 1, bringing the team to 8-0 for the season.
Led by quarterback Alexa Wilson, the Buccaneers pulled off three interceptions, two by Isys Grady and one by Ava Colubiale. Wide receiver Colubiale played seven innings as catcher for the Mainland softball team prior to kicking off the flag football game with her teammates.
Seabreeze quarterback Chelsea McQuarrie has had 21 touchdown passes for the season, and Morgan Long has had 10 touchdown receptions. but the duo was unable to combine efforts to score against the Buccaneers. Seabreeze head coach Todd Barnes has also brought fresh talent to the varsity team by bumping up Carly McNerney from the junior varsity.
“We knew Mainland would be a very tough team,” Barnes said. “We were just outplayed for four quarters. The good news is we could possibly see them again in districts.”
Seabreeze plays Flagler Palm Coast on Monday, April 5, and Mainland will face Spruce Creek Thursday, April 8.
