The intersection of Matanzas Woods Parkway and U.S. 1 partially reopened on Monday, May 11, for right turns only. Northbound drivers can now turn right from U.S. 1 onto Matanzas Woods Parkway. Westbound drivers can now turn right from Matanzas Woods Parkway onto U.S. 1.
Construction for the Florida Department of Transportation’s $2.6 million roundabout project began Oct. 23, 2019, with a full closure of the intersection. Detours via Belle Terre Parkway and Old Kings Road were forecast to last four months; instead, the detours lasted almost seven months.
The FDOT reports: “The project also includes drainage improvements, highway lighting, landscaping, and construction of sidewalks and crosswalks for pedestrians and bicyclists moving through the intersection from the existing trail.”
The current lane arrangement is scheduled through Aug. 31.
A $4.1 million construction project for a roundabout at U.S. 1 and Old Dixie Highway is scheduled to be completed by FDOT this summer. The contractor for both roundabouts is P&S Paving Inc.
