Survive and advance. That's what it takes to make it to the FHSAA girls soccer state championship.
That's what Spruce Creek's squad did when they outlasted rival Flagler Palm Coast in the 7A-Region 1 quarterfinals on the night of Tuesday, Feb. 11, at Spruce Creek High School.
The Hawks took an early 1-0 lead in the first half, but surrendered a goal to the Bulldogs with 18 minutes to play in regulation. The Bulldogs and Hawks went to overtime, and the Hawks' Emily Stout scored the go-ahead goal with about two minutes to play in the opening period. Spruce Creek held on to win 2-1.
The Hawks will face Oviedo at 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 14.
