The Palm Coast Observer and the city of Palm Coast put the cherry on top the weeklong festivities of the Palm Coast Open, a USTA tournament at the Palm Coast Tennis Center, with an inaugural tasting event on Feb. 6: Plated Palm Coast.
The event, which gave attendees a taste of many local restaurants, was "transformative on so many levels, thanks to the support of the community," said George Opelka, father of tennis star Reilly Opelka, who sponsored the event. "There are hundreds of people here at the event today. Ten years ago, we might have 10 people."
"Looking back five years ago," he continued, "we had four young American players ranked 100 in the world, and that was unheard of. Today we had players from 15 different countries with the best level of play we have had since the inception of the tournament started 11 years ago."
Participating restaurants in the Observer's Plated event were Brass Tap, Brown Dog Bar, Captain's BBQ, Clean Eats Kitchen, Dominos, Gilda's Creperie du Village, The Green Lion, Golden Corral, Jimmy John's Gourmet Sandwiches, JT's Seafood Shack, Metro Diner, Moe's Southwest Grill, Palm Harbor Grill, Purdee's Tropical Flavored Ice Ruby Tuesday, Sonny's BBQ, Subway at Winn-Dixie & Town Center, Sylvain's Caribbean Restaurant. The event was sponsored by Flagler Health+, Chiumento Dwyer Hertel Grant, Moonrise Brewing Co., Piniero Marketing Group and WNZF.
