Spruce Creek boys basketball's battle with rival Mainland was close for much of the contest — until late in the third quarter. After the Hawks cut the deficit to 2 points, the Buccaneers went on a run and took a double-digit lead at the end of the third period.
The Buccaneers continued to pull away, beating Spruce Creek 94-77 the night of Wednesday, Feb. 5, at Mainland High School.
The Hawks were led by senior guard Kendall Bean, who went 9-for-19 from the field for a team-high 26 points. The Hawks also got 18 points and 11 rebounds from forward JeVohn Sykes.
