Field trips aren’t happening for Flagler Schools students this fall, but they’re happening at Huckleberry Farms.
The farm hosted its first Out School session on Aug. 14, with Heather Beaven as instructor. She taught about a dozen children how to plant a seed.
“If you have the lace-in-the-mist, this is going to grow about a foot tall,” she said. “Keep your soil damp, not wet. … Seeds shouldn’t get too wet or too dry — kind of like your feet.”
That inspired one student to share his experience with wet socks at soccer practice.
Some students planted catnip, which can be used as a tea, Beaven said.
In future weeks, there will be tours of the farm to learn about snakes, frogs and insects. For more information, search for “HuckleberryFarmsFL” on Facebook.
