Flagler County is now planning to open the special needs shelter at Rymfire Elementary School on the morning of Monday, Sept. 2, Sheriff Rick Staly said in a video news release.

The Flagler County Jail inmate work crew will be available to fill sandbags on Monday at the FTI building on A1A in the Hammock as well as Santa Maria Del Mar Catholic Church in Flagler Beach. They will be available from 9:30 a.m. until 3 p.m. as long as the weather permits and as long as there are supplies of sand and sandbags.

This will be the last opportunity for inmate assistance with sandbags.

At this time it has been announced that all Flagler County government offices will be closed Tuesday, Sept. 3, and Wednesday, Sept. 4, due to the storm.

Flagler County Public Schools are closed on Tuesday, as well, and an update from the school district regarding school for the
remainder of the week is expected on Monday.

This storm continues to be an extremely strong and dangerous storm and is the second strongest storm in history. Flagler County is going to feel some effects of this storm Tuesday into Wednesday. The extent of those effects is not yet known.

The Flagler Beach pier is closing on Tuesday and after Monday there will be no lifeguards in Flagler Beach. Rip currents are already strong and we recommend you do not enter the ocean.

Take today and tomorrow to continue to prepare for this hurricane. Hurricane evacuation zones A, B, F and any low lying areas or modular homes should also be prepared to evacuate. It is anticipated that if an evacuation is recommended by the county it will likely occur on Tuesday. If an evacuation is recommended by the county a curfew will go into effect Tuesday evening for evacuation Zones A, B and F.

"The cooperation and neighbors helping neighbors is why we all love Flagler County," Staly said. "Thank you for taking this
storm seriously. This is a very, very strong storm and if there was a Category 6 it would qualify. Be safe, make your personal plans now and know the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office are ready to help our community get through this catastrophic-sized hurricane."
