The Flagler County Sheriff’s Office's Special Investigations Unit and SWAT team members raided a house at 82 Pine Circle Drive in Palm Coast early the morning of May 9, arresting a woman and her son on drug charges.
The raid occurred at 6:33 in the morning. It was the culmination of an investigation that began in early April following multiple complaints from residents who were concerned about drug activity at the house, according to an FCSO news release.
Deputies entering the home found Cory Waring, 23, and his mother Mia Lindsay, 42. There were also two children in the home, according to the news release, and deputies notified the Florida Department of Children and Family Services.
When deputies searched the home — which the family has owned since 2015, according to county property records — they found a 9mm handgun that had been reported stolen in Miami, 72.5 grams of Cocaine, 68 Oxycodone pills, 530 grams of Cannabis, 30 THC oil vaporizer cartridges and $4,800 cash, according to the news release.
Lindsay is a medical marijuana patient, and she had "multiple other substances that she was legally in possession of," according to an FCSO arrest affidavit. She initially spoke with deputies, but stopped talking and invoked her right to an attorney when she was asked about her involvement in distributing cocaine and oxycodone, according to the arrest affidavit.
Waring has a currently open drug possession case stemming from a Dec. 10, 2018, incident in which a deputy stopped Waring's car, smelled marijuana, found oxycodone in the vehicle, and noticed that Waring's cell phone, which was sitting face-up, "continuously rang with new text messages, stating, 'Yo, you got weed?' or 'You got green?'" according to the deputy's report.
Waring and Lindsay are both charged with trafficking cocaine, trafficking oxycodone and possession of THC oil.
Waring is also charged with possession of cannabis with intent to sell, and with possession of drug paraphernalia. He is being held at the county jail on no bond, according to the news release.
Lindsay is also charged with possession of less than 20 grams of cannabis. She is being held on $55,000 bond, according to the news release.
The investigation ongoing and there may be additional charges, according to the news release.
“I cannot say it enough, if you see something, say something,” Sheriff Rick Staly said, according to the news release. “It is really unfortunate that a mother would encourage and participate in this kind of illegal activity with her own son. These two had children inside this home with narcotics and stolen weapons. Citizens saw suspicious behavior, reported it, and now we have two more poison peddlers off of our streets. If something seems suspicious to you, report it. We will look into every lead and make arrests whenever possible.”
