Ormond Beach residents, along with volunteers from neighboring towns, rolled up their sleeves on Saturday, July 13, for a beach cleanup.
Hosted by Restaurant Row, founder Lena Lux of Tipsy Taco Cantina said the cleanups started as, not only a way to improve the beaches in our hometown, but as a fundraiser event for the newly established nonprofit organization. Restaurant Row was started by the businesses on the beeachside to build community in all areas, Lux said. This includes community events, block parties with participating businesses, improving sidewalks, and looking into a trolley system to connect businesses
This was the second beach cleanup event, and more than 50 people participated. Lux said that the first was so popular with the community that they are hoping to have them regularly. This event included the Tomoka State Park as a cleanup location.
"They have been super supportive, as well as all the businesses and organizations in town who have come together to make this day successful and fun," Lux said. "It's a great family-friendly event and we're excited that there are so many people passionate about keeping our beautiful Earth clean."
