The city of Palm Coast’s Mayor’s 90/90 Challenge, which kicked off Thursday, Jan. 10, is encouraging locals to get active.
“I want to challenge all residents of Palm Coast to exercise at least 90 miles in 90 days,” said Palm Coast Mayor Milissa Holland in a press release. “That’s an average of one mile per day. Whether it’s walking, bicycling, tennis, running or another exercise, the important thing is to find an activity you enjoy and make it a daily habit.”
The challenge will continue through April 9. The Challenge is open to all ages, and families are encouraged to participate together.
Participants can choose their own form of exercise and will log their success through the city website: https://www.palmcoastgov.com/healthy. Progress will be self-reported throughout the month. It’s free to sign up and participate. The website provides information on mileage for popular trails and info on how to convert certain sports such as tennis to a mileage count. For the Challenge, 2,000 steps will be counted as one mile.
For the twelfth year, the Palm Coast Arts Foundation will present he “Symphony in PCAF Park” with the Jacksonville Symphony. The event will open at 6:30 p.m., with the concert starting at 8 p.m., on Sunday, April 14, at 1500 Central Ave., in Town Center.
Deanna Tham, the Jacksonville Symphony Assistant Coordinator, will be the Principal Conductor.
Early discount pricing is available for $40 for PCAF members and $45 for general public, until Feb. 1. Tables of 10 can be purchased for $400 (PCAF members) and $450 (general public). After Feb. 1, the rate will go up to $45 for PCAF members and $50 for the general public. Guests are invited to bring their own picnic; tables and chairs will be provided.

Flagler County Sheriff’s Office Cmdr. Philip Reynolds graduated from the 43rd Class of the Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institutes’ Florida Leadership Academy on Jan. 11, according to a press release.
The Florida Leadership Academy is a four-week course held in Tallahassee, designed to prepare first line supervisors in criminal justice organizations to exemplify the character and integrity expected of criminal justice professionals. Participants in the Florida Leadership Academy learn the skills necessary to support the technical and administrative needs of their agency. These skills include proactive problem solving, effective communication, and related leadership skills.
City of Palm Coast residents are invited to give input to help shape the future of Palm Coast by taking the 2018-2019 Citizen Survey from Wednesday, Jan. 2, through Saturday, Feb. 2.
The survey can be taken online at https://www.palmcoastgov.com. Residents can also take the survey in person during regular business hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays at Palm Coast City Hall, 160 Lake Ave.; at the Palm Coast Utility Office, 2 Utility Drive; and at the Palm Coast Community Center, 305 Palm Coast Parkway NE.
Responses received from residents will be presented to the Palm Coast City Council on Feb. 26 and will be used by Council Members for strategic planning and to set priorities for the coming months and years.
With thousands of former and retired military members living in Palm Coast, the city is offering a new arts program this spring that has therapeutic benefits.
The program is called Crafts for Veterans. Like the namesake, the therapeutic arts and crafts kits range in categories including leatherwork, woodwork, models, painting, needlecrafts, poster art, scrapbooks, jewelry and many more.
Classes are free and are held from 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesdays Jan. 2 through May 29 at the Palm Coast Community Center. Those who participate must present a veteran ID card.
