Cathy Hearney, of Ormond-by-the-Sea, said she goes by the house at 182 Holland Road almost every night to see the decorations.
“He’s got the best house anywhere,” she said, referring to homeowner Gary Henry.
His house features several yard displays and lights on the roof that flash along with music. Henry said people tell him they come every year.
“It’s my present to the community,” he said. “Their smile is their present back.”
He said he sits on the porch and hearing the children brings tears to his eyes.
He also has a big Halloween display, and starts work on Christmas after he takes those decorations down, about the beginning of November. Like Disney Land, he tries to add something new each year, he said.
After Hurricane Matthew, he almost cancelled the decorations because he was so busy with his pool cleaning business. But a neighbor told him he had to continue because everyone comes out to see it.
His mother was known for decorating at the holidays, he said, and he still can’t decorate a tree like her.
