A Flagler County Jail inmate was found dead on the morning of Saturday, Sept. 29, according to a news release by the Flagler County Sheriff's Office.

Mark Terrence Klos was found leaning against the door of his cell at about 9:31 a.m. Saturday. The release said it was an apparent suicide.

Detention deputies and onsite medical staff immediately performed CPR and used an AED in an attempt to revive him. Flagler County Fire Rescue arrived and took over. FCFR then pronounced the inmate deceased.

The jail was immediately placed on lockdown. Sheriff Rick Staly requested that the Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigate the death.

"It is tragic anytime someone takes their life," Staly said in a release. "We extend condolences to his family."

According to the release, all inmates are screened for medical and mental health upon being booked in to the jail. The last known attempted suicide by an inmate at the Detention Center was on Feb. 12. However, fellow inmates and detention deputies foiled the attempt.

FCSO will not be releasing additional information on the death as FDLE is the lead agency conducting
the investigation.
