Maria Elizabeth Frazão Pereira remembers celebrating the harvest of the vineyards her father owned in Portugal when she lived there for 15 years as a child before moving to the United States.
"It's just something I remember vividly," she said. "After all the men and the women got all the grapes, we would go up to the house and have lots of food and dance."
This annual celebration is called the Festa das Vindimas, meaning the feast of the harvest. For the last 12 years, she's celebrated this feast with hundreds of other locals at the Portuguese American Cultural Center.
With colorful red, white and green traditional attire, members of the folklore group Rancho Corações de Portugal twirled around the center for a lively performance during the event on Saturday, Sept. 22. About 280 people gathered to enjoy wine and dinner at the center, located at 1200 Palm Harbor Parkway.
