The Boy Scout Troop 403 received their latest ranks and merit badges at its Court of Honor on Tuesday, Sept. 18, with the help of Ormond Beach Mayor Bill Partington.
Partington also presented Dyson Billings with a special Medal of Merit to recognize his actions in saving a person's life on Jan. 25, 2017. Billings, a former Scout, performed CPR on a co-worker inside the AHC Safe and Lock store. The presentation of the medal was memorable, as Billings is also Partington's brother-in-law.
Scoutmaster Eric Middlebrook commended all the scouts in attendance for their accomplishments and used Billings' experience as proof that what they learn as a boy scout are things that they will carry with them.
"Scouting skills are life skills," Middlebrook said.
This story was updated at 11:07 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 20 to correct that Dyson Billings performed CPR on a co-worker, not a customer as previously stated.
