Your Town: Funeral home hosts special ceremony to remember pets

Volusia Memorial Funeral Home, located at 4815 Clyde Morris Blvd. in Port Orange, is hosting a remembrance ceremony at 1 p.m. on Sept. 9 to commemorate National Pet Memorial Day. The day is observed annually on the second Sunday in September to honor pets, alive or deceased. Reverend Bette-Jo Foster, senior pastor for Covenant United Methodist Church, will lead the ceremony. Attendees can also paint memorial stones after the ceremony to take home or leave at the funeral home's pet memorial area. 

Monthly breakfast supports numerous charities

The Epiphany Knights of Columbus Council 12569 held their monthly breakfast raising funds in support of the Parish Seminarian, Parish Food Pantry, Pregnancy Crisis Center, Special Olympics and other charitable causes.

Celebrate updated museum with Port Orange Historical Trust this weekend

The Port Orange Historical Trust will have a four-day open house to celebrate its second anniversary at its newly enlarged museum located at 740 Commonwealth Blvd. in Port Orange. Festivities will kick off at 5 p.m. on Friday for the trust's "Nite at the Museum" event, which will take place the first Friday of each month. The museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday to Saturday and 2 to 5 p.m. on Sunday. The museum now has six new exhibit rooms, and admission is free. 

Lady of Hope Knights of Columbus announces new officers

Our Lady of Hope Knights of Columbus Assembly 2794 installed their new officers for the year on Saturday, August 11. Officiating the installations were District Master Bob Read and State Ceremonials Director John O'Toole of Ocala. Presenting the colors and escorting the new officers were Color Guard SK's Ray Zall, Jim Waggoner, Mike Alldenderfer and Ted Morrell.

Our Lady of Hope Knights of Columbus also attended the Exemplification held on Aug. 18 at the Jacksonville Marriott. The new Sir Knights —  Jim Schwenker, Richard Smatt, Vito Benedetto, Joseph Cerio, Steven Marchese, Aaron Pulliam, Pat Santovasi, James Pascarelli, Egon Gantner and Egon Gantner III —  were accompanied by their Pastor and Faithful Friar Fr Chris Hoffman and four SK Color Guard members of the Assembly 2794 of OLOH: Stan Hetrick, John Ingria, Bob St Amand and Faithful Navigator John O’Malley.

Young free throw championship winner recognized locally

On Aug. 12, Our Lady of Hope Knights of Columbus Star Council 8086 presented Jessica Senft with an award for achieving First Place in the 2018 K of C Regional Basketball Free Throw Championship Competition for the Orlando Diocese. Senft was also acknowledged for this achievement at the K of C Florida State Convention in Orlando this summer. She is active at OLOH and assists her father Tom Senft, kitchen manager, with the Knights' monthly pancake breakfast.
